Crush With Eyeliner

Good morning, my little Kumquats!

Today i thought i'd write a bit about my obsession with eyeliner - we all have our go-to look for days when we're pressed for time or maybe just feeling lazy.  For me, it's a relatively clean-eye with maybe two (at most) light coloured eyeshadows, gel eyeliner and a nude lip.

No matter how little time i have to get ready, i know i can whip on some eyeliner, practically with my eyes closed.
In fact, if i was forced at crossbow-point to choose only ONE cosmetic product for the rest of my life (what a terrifying thought!), it would be eyeliner.  I pretty much feel naked without it.  I learned how to do a basic cat-eye when i was a wee Twiglet of 14 - and now i'm so adept at it that i can whip it on in under a minute.

One of my favourite formulations is gel-liner,  a la the ubiquitous Bobbie Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner - which started my whole obsession with gel/cream eyeliners.

Which reminds me! Do any of you remember Nars' liquid liner in the little jars, back in the early 2000s? I can't for the life of me remember what they were called (i think i've inhaled far too many hair-dye fumes over the years), but they were fabulous.
You had to be pretty good with liquid liner to enjoy them, but as an eyeliner afficionado, they were right up my alley. The colours were unique and beautiful, and they came in a bunch of them - from black to lilac and everything in-between.

Well, guess what? In August, Nars will be releasing Eye Paints - their new gel eyeliners!  And from the looks of the photos i've seen, the first release colours will be up to par with what one would expect from Nars.  I expect there won't be anything quite like them from any other company.
I simply CANNOT WAIT!  I'm going to buy every last one of them. Because i don't know about you, but i get seriously bored with the requisite brown-or-black eyeliners out there.
I'll keep you all updated regarding the release of the Eye Paints - at the moment there's not a lot of information out there, just that they exist and will be released in the States sometime in August.

Meanwhile, YSL's gel eyeliners do have some beautiful colours available - as does, surprisingly enough, Bobbie Brown.  As far as the available gel-liners in pots, they both rate at the top of my list.  They apply easily, the colours are gorgeous and they last all day.

Today, i'm wearing Bobbie Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Ivy Shimmer Ink.

A little bit of shimmering eyeshadow swept across the lid, a sheer highlight under the brow and a pretty gel eyeliner in an unconventional colour, and voila - a super-simple but gorgeous EOTD!
Also, please note the ASH blonde brow pencil!  I finally had to give up on my Chanel Clair brow pencil and switched to one of the very few ash-toned brow pencils for blondes available - in this case, MAC's Fling brow pencil.

Kinda forgot blush today - but my eyes look fabulous!

I'll be doing a post - sometime soon - on ash-blonde brow pencil, as well.  Because as some of you may know, it is damn-near impossible to find a decent brow pencil for blondes that doesn't lean heavily orange/gold - which is super-annoying for those of us with ash/cool toned hair.

ANYway - gel eyeliner. It's my saviour.
No matter how little time you have to get ready because your housemate is hogging the bathroom at 5:45 am and you haven't even had any coffee yet and your husband is still asleep even though he has to drive you to work in 20 minutes, you can always slap on a little eyeliner and voila!  Instant pretty.

  1. +100 points for the R.E.M. reference!

Black eyeliner is my go to, over the last couple of years I've been branching out to various shades of burgundy, brown and purple. My current favorites are MAC Chromagraphic Pencils, Make Up For Ever Aqua Liners & Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liners. Illamasqua's Precision Ink liners are also pretty amazing. :)
